Tongliao, formerly known as Zhelimu League, is a prefecture level city under Inner Mongolia Autonomous Region. It is located in the east of Inner Mongolia, bordering Siping City of Jilin Province in the east, Chifeng City and Xilingol League in the west, Shenyang City, Fuxin City and Tieling City of Liaoning Province in the south, and Hinggan League, Baicheng City and Songyuan City of Jilin Province in the north. Located in the middle latitude, it belongs to the temperate zone, arid and semi-arid, continental monsoon climate. It governs 8 county-level administrative regions, including 1 municipal district, 1 county-level city, 1 county, 5 banners, and 1 economic and technological development zone, which are Horqin District, Holingol City, Kailu County, Horqin Left Middle Banner, Horqin Left Back Banner, Naiman Banner, Hure Banner, Jaraud Banner, and Tongliao Economic and Technological Development Zone, respectively, with a total area of 59,535 square kilometers.
